Targeting the Brain via Intranasal Delivery: Rationale, Progress and Challenges
Traini D.
Respiratory Drug Delivery 2024. Volume 1, 2024: 66-72.
Abstract:
Intranasal delivery systems represent a compelling method for administering drugs directly to the central nervous system (CNS), circumventing the formidable blood-brain barrier (BBB). Anatomical, physiological, and technological aspects all influence the development of intranasal formulations aimed at brain targeting. The mechanisms enabling nose-to-brain delivery (N2B), the challenges inherent in formulating and deploying these systems, and recent advances in device technology that bolster drug bioavailability and patient adherence are discussed.
