Abstract:
The new era of cloud (or “connected”) medicine provides multiple opportunities that could benefit key stakeholders in respiratory healthcare – first and foremost, the patients – but also the patients’ relatives and friends, healthcare teams, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, as well as payers. The rapid expansion of large patient databases that includes detailed long-term chronology of the patients’ health status has the potential to greatly reduce risk, cost and accelerate development, approval and accessibility of new therapies that can then be used more precisely for each individual. Future inhalers could play an important part in this process, provided they are fully integrated into cloud medicine.
