Abstract:
High resolution mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) and RNAscope® in situ hybridization (ISH) of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) regulated genes were used in the rat lung to determine the spatial distribution of inhaled drug and the drug response, respectively. Salmeterol was found to be preferentially retained in bronchial tissue whereas fluticasone propionate (FP) was retained also in the alveolar region, yet at a low dose FP induced a highly selective response in the bronchial epithelium.
