Abstract:
The chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellants in metered dose inhalers (MDIs) are being replaced by hydrofluoroalkanes (HFAs) world wide, due to their ozone depletion effect. This process, however, is progressing slowly in China. This article describes the current status, analyzes the technical challenges, summarizes the present regulatory strategies, and discusses possible time lines for successful CFC propellant replacement in China.
